Jivdani Temple

The ancient famous Maa Jivdani temple is located on the Jivdani hill in Virar, a suburb of Bombay. In 17th century there was a fort by the name of Jivdhan on this hill.
Jivadani means Goddess of Life. This Goddess is believed to fulfill the desires of her devotees. It is recognised as one of the 51 Shakthipeethas like Kanyakumari, Kamakshi and Kalimata temples.

The mountain on which the temple is situated is known as Jivadani mountain. It takes about half an hour (walking) from Virar station to reach the base of the mountain and about 20 to 45 minutes climb to take darshan of Goddess Jivadani. Apart from the path with steps there are other paths to reach the top.

There are street lights on both the sides all along the 1350 steps which lead to the temple. This scene is picturesque during the evenings. Once you get to the top you can have full view of Virar. Very soon this mandir will have a new seven storeyed temple complex and a ropeway to reach the top.
