Taraporewala Aquarium, Mumbai

Taraporewala Aquarium is the sole aquarium in Mumbai, located at the Marine Drive. Built in 1951, this aquarium is named after Mr. Taraporewala, a Parsee philanthropist who donated a huge sum for its construction. There are more than 100 species of freshwater and marine fishes in the aquarium, including seven different types of coral fish from the Lakshadweep Islands.

Tourists can spot turtles, sharks, moray eels, small starfish, stingrays and many other species in this aquarium. There is a room at the aquarium that is occupied by fossils, rare sea shells andeven some preserved fish in bottles. Exhibits at the aquarium epitomise the variety of marine life in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean.

A proposal has been put forward to convert the aquarium into an underwater oceanarium. This will allow the people to take a feel of an undersea walk, witnessing rich marine life. Tourists can reach this place by taking a bus, railway.
