Aarey Milk Colony, is well within the limits of a city that stretches all the way to Dahisar, and is an oasis of green in an otherwise grey metropolis. A school-picnic favourite, the Aarey grounds are also a great place for adults to play.
Aarey Milk Colony is situated in Goregaon East on main Ghodbunder Road, a suburb of Mumbai. It has gardens, a nursery, lakes, an observation pavilion, picnic facilities, and milk plants. You can also try the fresh milk and snacks in the colony’s canteen here.
Some of the attractions in Aarey Milk Colony are the Aarey Garden Restaurant, Chota Kashmir and the Boating rides and the Picnic Spot.
Chhota Kashmir –
Years ago, when Bollywood couldn’t afford to shoot in Kashmir or Shimla, it hopped across from Film City to can scenes at Chhota Kashmir instead. The garden just past the police station that is down the Goregaon entrance is abundant in shrubbery and flowering plants and offers a beautiful view of the hills in the distance. This is where Rajesh Khanna bobbed his head and sang of sweet nothings to a shy Sharmila Tagore in Aradhana. Today, it’s a favourite with couples on their day off from work or college and is not a bad place to spend the day. The garden is open between 9am and 6.30pm.
